The Art of the Vignette

One of my favourite things in a home is a beautifully styled vignette - a group of objects displayed together. It's these kinds of details that give you a clue to the person who lives there, adds personality. There is a real art to it, but once you've mastered it, you can apply it to so many areas in your home.

My advice is to layer - place objects on top of each other, in front of each other; books are great to use in a vignette. Make sure you add different shapes, heights and textures to create interest; flowers and plants add wonderful texture. And have fun with it, change your vignettes regularly - you get better with practice.

Bookshelves are perfect for a series of vignettes.

It doesn't have to be complicated, it can be really simple.

Don't forget your bathroom and dressing table.

Even your kitchen bench.

Shops are full of vignettes, and Anna Spiro from Absolutely Beautiful Things is a guru of vignettes.

And if you didn't see this over on my facebook page, make sure you watch Emily Henderson style a mantle piece in three different ways. She is amazing...

Gather in Homestlye

A couple of months ago I featured the gorgeous new Napier shop, Gather on the blog. A textile wonderland owned by Nikki Gabriel, who is an incredibly talented textile designer, knitter, and beautiful person. Now the latest issue of Homestyle magazine has also featured her shop, and I was lucky enough to interview Nikki and write the article. Here are few of the beautiful photos taken by the lovely Sarah Horn. If you haven't already, make sure you get hold of the latest Homestyle issue to see more.

Adore Aug/Sep Issue

I'm always excited when Adore brings out their latest issue. As soon as I saw this cover I knew I wouldn't be disappointed, it's jam packed full of colour and inspiration, as usual.
My favourite article is the one about the incredible Sydney store 'Passionate About Design' (PAD), which is where the cover shot is from. I'm crazy about the chaise covered in Florence Broadhurst's Turnabouts fabric. Now that's my kind of shop!
