Quiet Seaside Cottage

Once a fisherman's cottage, this beautiful home in Denmark, north of Copenhagen, now belongs to a journalist, Helen, and her son Lauritz. Helen has used my favourite 'quiet' colour palette of white, grey, wood, and soft blue, which reflects their surroundings beautifully, to create a tranquil haven perfect for writing.

It's lovely to see a David Trubridge light looking stunning over the dining table. I love how the fire place is slightly off centre from the chimney (I like it when things aren't too perfect and symmetrical).

A gorgeous piece of rustic wood makes a fabulous shelf bracket. The home has a strong Asian influence which adds to the simple, zen quality it has.

Simple, honest materials are used throughout, and the bathroom is a perfect example of this, with it's concrete basin set on a rustic metal and wood vanity.

This tiny bedroom cleverly places drawers under the bed to save on room. Set up so high, it feels really cosy. Plenty of natural light, white walls, and very simple decorating makes it feel more spacious than it is.

Another bedroom makes great use of the awkward sloping walls by installing a very cool handmade wardrobe system. The wood wallpaper continues the earthy, natural theme.

Out Door Spaces | Three Ways

I'm a Spring and Autumn girl, so I'm so happy that Spring has finally arrived after what seems to have been a long winter. Recently I've been braving my favourite outdoor seat with my cup of tea, in my jacket and ugg boots. But now I look forward to lots of relaxing times spent alfresco with my family and friends (without my slippers!). Here are three outdoor spaces that I adore, which is your favourite?

Tips for Renters

There is no doubt that decorating and styling your home can be much harder when you're renting. You can't rip down walls or pull up carpet, and even hanging pictures on the wall is often frowned upon by landlords. If you're prepared to do the work yourself (or pay someone to do it) you may be able to paint the walls a neutral colour if your landlord agrees, but you have to weigh up how much you want to spend on a place that you don't own. There are, however, ways of adding your mark to your rental home.

You can get some fabulous wall decals that are removable - perfect for renters, as they can be taken down without damaging the wall, and reapplied in the next home.

If you're not allowed to put nails in the wall, try leaning your artwork up against the wall. You still get great impact, and there's something a bit more casual about this look.

The same can be done with mirrors.

Invest in pieces that you can take with you when you move, pieces that will bring personality to your home. Rugs are fantastic for bringing warmth, colour and texture, and for covering up any unsightly flooring or stains. Great furniture and accessories are key.

Plants help bring life and texture to a room, as well as purifying the air. Have fun by housing the plants in attractive pots and baskets.

You may even want to take down any particularly ugly curtains and replace with some of your choice. Just make sure you keep the original curtains safe and rehang them when you leave.

A lot of these images feature more than one of the tips I've mentioned, so I hope they can inspire you to make your rental home a place you can be proud of.
