On my travels through the internet today I came across the website of Paul Costello, a super cool American photographer. I was so enamoured by his work that I knew I had to share it with you. All of his work is amazing, but, of course, it's the interiors that have captured my heart. They are all so cool and quirky, and the thing that I love the most is that they are all so individual, and so "styley".

Last week I was contacted by the lovely Tina from Roomie. She was putting together an article for Stuff and asked if I could share one of our most commonly asked design questions. I was happy to help, and decided to focus on a question that I think is very important... how to establish an interior style...
We often work with clients who want help defining their style. Some people were born knowing it, and for others it takes time. Your home should be an extension of you, it should reflect your likes and interests, tell a story, and celebrate the people that live there.
Try looking to your wardrobe for inspiration. What colours, patterns and textures are you drawn to? What places make you feel happy - the beach, a certain cafe…? Try and translate that feeling into your home.
Definitely the most favoured Bibby + Brady tool for establishing your style is Pinterest - a free website that enables you to ‘pin’ images from anywhere on the internet to your own pin boards. If you don’t already know your style, you will be surprised how quickly a pattern emerges once you start pinning.
Even if, and when, you find your style and know what you love, you still may want help pulling it all together. Dael & I have been working with an awesome family here in Hawke's Bay helping them makeover their dining room. They have a beachside home, perfect for their busy family, which includes two kids and a dog. The dining room has great indoor/outdoor flow with large sliding doors at each end, and a breakfast bar separates the kitchen and dining room.
We put together a concept board and furniture plan with the aim to freshen the room and update it. We wanted it to look stylish with a relaxed, beachy feel, while also being practical for the family.
We are so happy with the result, and so are our clients. The white walls have lightened, brightened and freshened the space. Recessed ceiling lights were removed and a large ikat light shade was hung over the dining table. Four new barstools mean the family can choose to dine casually at the breakfast bar if they want. A pair of milk bottle pendants look fantastic and provide excellent task lighting over the bench.
When we couldn't find the dining table in the right size, Dael & I had this one custom made. The cross legs and American oak top look stunning, and the white-washed wicker chairs complete the setting.
An Acapulco chair and pouf in the corner provide a spot to relax, and both can pulled outside when needed. In the corner a buffet in beach tones provides valuable storage.
